Thomas Martineau

Tom Martineau came to the FAMU School of Architecture in July 1985 as the first full-time Director of its Institute for Building Sciences. He became a full-time faculty member in 1992. He teaches primarily in three areas of the curriculum: materials and methods of construction, environmental technology, and practice.

Since 1989 he has co-written a quarterly newsletter, Today's Contractor, sponsored by a consortium of CPA firms with clients in the building design and construction field. Since 2000 he has worked as Senior Associate with Akin & Associates, Architects, serving as project manager and project architect on a variety of educational and civic projects.

From 1973 to 1985 Tom served as Research Manager at Battelle Memorial Institute, leading projects and programs in affordable housing, technology forecasting, and market analysis. From 1965 to 1973 he was a Research Associate with the State University Construction Fund, overseeing performance criteria development in interior finishes, lighting, and acoustics.

Tom is a founding Board Member of the Tallahassee-Leon County Housing Development Corporation, a past Board Member and President of the Tallahassee Community College Foundation, and an Emeritus Member of the Foundation for Florida Architecture. He serves currently on the Board of the International Making Cities Livable Council and of the Riley House Museum and Cultural Center in Tallahassee.
