Registration

Registration at FAMU
When advisement is complete, the student will receive a University-assigned registration authorization code that allows the student to register for courses via telephone and Internet-based software. Degree-seeking students are encouraged to take advantage of the University's 48-line telephone registration system or Web registration via PeopleSoft. To use the PeopleSoft, a student ID/authorization code is required. This authorization code is mailed to eligible students from the Office of the Registrar. It is important that students ensure that the Office of the Registrar has the correct mailing address. With the use of a touch-tone telephone and Internet, students are able to register for classes from home or anywhere in the world.

The University's goal is to improve academic advisement by providing degree audits to undergraduate students and by providing remote terminals linking advisement with the registration process.

Failure to register for a course or courses by the close of the formal registration period will result in the assessment of a late registration fee of $100.00. No student will be permitted to register after the "last day to register" as listed in the University calendar.

The FAMU/FSU Cooperative Program
Florida A&M University(FAMU) and Florida State University (FSU) are participants in a cooperative program that permits students enrolled at either institution to take a limited load at the other institution as follows:

  1. Permission is to be given by the academic advisor and Dean of the student's home university and by the Chairman of the department in which the course is to be taken at the host university.
  2. No more than half of the credit hours taken by a student during a given term may be taken at FSU.
  3. Whenever possible within the policy of FAMU, courses taken at FSU may be graded on an S-U basis.
  4. Courses taken at FSU should not be offered at FAMU. However, FAMU students have taken courses at FSU that were filled at FAMU. A letter from the academic advisor may be required.
  5. Student credit hours generated by students taking courses at FSU are treated the same as credits taken at FAMU.
  6. Because all fees are paid at FAMU, students will not be required to pay additional registration fees for courses taken at FSU.

Procedures for Registration

  1. To register for courses at FSU, the student must list the cooperative section number and the semester hours on the Schedule Request Form during academic advisement. If the course at FSU is lower-level, the student should select OUR 2111 601 (including appropriate reference number as indicated in the schedule booklet) and write it in on the Schedule Request Form as though it were offered on the FAMU campus. If the course at FSU is upper-division, select OUR 4111 601 (including appropriate reference number as indicated in the schedule booklet) and write it on the Schedule Request Form.
  2. The student completes the application for registration in FAMU-FSU Cooperative Program form. These can be obtained from the SOA Student Records Office. This form requires the signature of the Faculty Advisor, Dean, and FAMU/FSU COOP Representative located at the Coop registration site in the registration center. Within the "S-U Grade" section of form, the advisor must select "no" (letter grades will be reported). If "yes" were selected, satisfactory or unsatisfactory will be reported as the final grade.
  3. The FSU Course Request Registration form must be completed at the cooperative table in the Registration Center before going to the registration terminal. (These forms will be available at the cooperative table).
  4. In most cases, student spaces will be reserved at FSU for FAMU students. However, certain courses may require permission from FSU before enrollment is granted to FAMU students.
  5. Students may obtain copies of their immunization records from the FAMU Health Center for submission to FSU.

The FSU course prefix, course number, section number and title, hours, and grade will appear on the student's transcript.

Transient Student Registration
A full-time FAMU student who has a cumulative GPA of 2.0 is permitted to enroll and transfer credits of pre-approved courses taken at another institution, only if the course is not being offered at FAMU the semester the student applies for the transient course. This one-term approval allows FAMU students to enroll in courses at another institution that may not be offered at FAMU. Students can take these courses without being admitted to the host institution.

  1. Students must complete the Florida A & M University Transient Student Form.
  2. It is important to list the FAMU equivalent prefix and course number on the form. Forms can be acquired from the SOA Student Records Office.
  3. The forms require the signature of the Dept. Head (Coordinator of Recruitment & Retention in SOA) and the Dean.
  4. The student must take the completed forms to the Office of the Registrar for review and approval.
  5. It is the student's responsibility to forward the first page of the Transient Student Form to the Registrar of the receiving school.
  6. The FAMU equivalent course prefix, course number, section number, title, and hours will appear on the student's transcript after successful completion of the course. This course is considered a "transfer" course, and the University only transfers the credits.
