Michael (Mike) Alfano, Jr.

Professor Mike Alfano, AIA is a founding member of the School of Architecture. He is a third-generation architect and has been registered as an architect in the State of Florida since 1974. Professor Alfano is also an urban designer. Prior to coming to FAMU, he practiced in a number of cities, most notably in the New York City Mayor's Office. He maintains an architecture practice specializing in residential architecture.

Professor Alfano's educational background includes a five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville and a Master of Urban Design degree from The Pratt Institute in New York that included study at the Institute de Urbanistica at the University of Florence, Italy.

Professor Alfano has held a number of positions at various schools and has taught a wide range of courses other than design. Currently, Professor Alfano is Coordinator of the Architecture Graduate Program. His hobbies are photography, cooking, and music.
