Application and Admission Requirements

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the School of Architecture receives the completed application materials by FRIDAY, JANUARY 23. If materials are not received by the deadline, the application may not be considered for admission. Admission is competitive. Late applications are not eligible for the FAMU SOA scholarship programs. Applications are considered on a space-available basis. Please send all materials to:

Applicants must meet the requirements of the School of Graduate Studies at Florida A&M as well as those of the School of Architecture . The Florida A&M University Schoolof Graduate Studies' requirements include:

  • A completed university GRADUATE APPLICATION form and payment of the non-refundable fee.
  • An official up-to-date TRANSCRIPT of undergraduate records sent directly from all previous colleges attended.
  • ONE of the following:
    • A 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative grade point average covering the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate work.
    • A combined score of 1000 or more on the verbal and quantitative sections of the aptitude test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Applicants are responsible for having the scores sent to the address shown above.
    • A degree in any field at the graduate level from an accredited institution of higher education.
The Florida A&M University School of Architecture requirements include:
  • A RÉSUMÉ and LETTER OF INTENT indicating the applicant's educational and career background, educational and career goals, and reasons for selecting the degree program at FAMU.
  • A PORTFOLIO is required of applicants who have previously studied architecture or a related field. The samples of work will not be returned.
  • THREE LETTERS OF REFERENCE from people who can speak knowledgeably about the quality of the applicant's recent work. For your convenience, the School of Architecture provides a Recommendation Form that may be used.

A foreign student must score 550 or better on the TOEFL prior to admittance to the university. All international students must be fully admitted six months prior to their first semester.
