The Florida A&M University
School of Architecture will present “CoFA 2003: Connecting to Florida
Architecture,” from June 9 - 20. Through a series of architecture workshops,
high school students can experience freehand drawing, digital media, and
design studio workshops. The workshops provide an introduction to design,
an appreciation of local history, and an understanding of architectural
education.
content
CoFA 2003 is structured as
design media and design studio workshops.
The design media
workshops include freehand drawing and digital media sessions. The
freehand drawing sessions will focus on still life, model, and portrait
drawing techniques using various media. Digital media sessions will focus
on multimedia Web site development. The media workshop final project will
challenge the students to combine sketches, images and video clips that
describe the architecture of Tallahassee.
The design studio
workshops will focus on understanding design as a creative search. Through
quick sketches and process models, students will develop creative,
full-scale solutions to a design problem. The studio is not a drafting
class. The final projects will become part of a summer exhibit in the
School of Architecture gallery. participants High
school students with an interest in design are encouraged to apply for one
to four workshops. Architecture faculty, preservationists, and local
architects will teach the workshops. All of the activities will be held at
the FAMU School of Architecture building.
schedule Four workshops (two design media and two design
studio) will be presented over a two-week period. Each workshop is
structured as a half-day session that starts on Monday and ends on Friday.
The morning workshops are from 8:30-12:00 noon. The afternoon workshops
are from 1:00-4:30pm.
The daily schedule
provides a 60-minute break between the morning and afternoon sessions.
Students may bring their lunch. Snack and soda vending machines are
located in the architecture building. In contrast to our previous
architecture camps, college credit and housing will not be
provided.
